Property asking prices up
Asking prices for property in the UK rose this month by an average
of 1.2 per cent, according to a report from Rightmove.com.
It found that the average UK property asking price is now
£242,500, compared to £239,521 in April.
However, the website also recorded significant regional variations
in asking prices, with the south-east following typical seasonal
patterns by increasing prices by 4.2 per cent, while other areas
lowered them.
Miles Shipside, commercial director at Rightmove.com, suggested
that homeowners may be overpricing their properties, saying: "New
sellers can see the storm clouds overhead but seem to believe it's
only raining on other people."
Also asking prices are up, a number of recent surveys suggest that
actual house prices are down. Nationwide, Halifax and the Financial
Times all recorded house price falls of varying degrees for
April.
