Homebuyers prize privacy, study reveals
The majority of homebuyers would prefer a property that offered
them privacy from neighbours, it has been revealed.
In a poll conducted by Yorkshire Bank, almost three out of five (59
per cent) of respondents said that they would choose a home which
is not overlooked by neighbours if they could.
However, the degree to which privacy is prized differs throughout
the country, the study showed.
While 79 per cent of West Midlands residents said they would prefer
a property with more privacy, just 39 per cent of Londoners
expressed the same preference.
Gary Lumby, Yorkshire Bank's head of retail, said the increasing
desire for privacy was reflected in the UK's housing stock,
particularly in the case of city centre apartment blocks.
He commented: "Privacy and personal space are high on the list of
priorities for homeowners keen to avoid nosey neighbours.
"As increasing numbers of young professionals and first time buyers
are choosing to live in city centre apartment blocks or purpose
built flats, it seems that more of us aspire to own a property that
offers plenty of privacy."
